Learn all about welcoming one of our dogs into your home and your heart.
Just as critical as finding the right breed is finding the kennel and program that fits you, your family, and your lifestyle.
Now that you think a Tamaskan is right for you let's see if Sundog is a good fit. Every program and kennel is not going to be the right fit for every family and that is great! We are all different, have different needs, priorities, and wants when it comes to welcoming a new dog into our hearts.

How does welcoming a Sundog into my home work?

We have assembled this step-by-step guide to welcoming a sundog puppy into your family.
Adopting a Sundog starts off by submitting an application. We require everyone submit an application, regardless of their relation, presence, or involvement in the breed or to any one at Sundog.

Our applications remain open until we have a minimum of 10 solid candidates for homes. Applications take 2-4 weeks for us to fully review and will not be reviewed unless all aspects of the application are submitted. After the application has been reviewed we will contact your references, and then we will possibly open up a dialogue with you. Based off our discussions with your, your application content, etc. we will determine if we think you would be an appropriate home for one of our puppies.
When we accept your application we contact you and offer you a spot on our waiting list. Along with this contact we will include a Waiting List Contract. After the contract is signed and returned we send a deposit invoice.

A spot is not held on the waiting list without both the contract and deposit. This deposit is non-refundable and is deducted from the final purchase price of your future sundog.
Once a pregnancy is confirmed we will make an announcement online. We encourage you to watch our pages - especially if you are on our waiting list!
When the puppies are born, stable, and comfortable with their mother we start contacting those on our waiting list.

We go down our list and confirm whether each family is ready to welcome a sundog into their home in the coming months. It is ok if you aren't, you will still remain on our waiting list, but if we can not reach you through the provided contact points or if you pass on a puppy you forfeit a chance at a puppy from that litter.

We will continue to go down the list until we hit the end of the list or have enough people committed for the size of our litter.

Every puppy will be spoken for before they reach 8 weeks of age.
In our professional and personal experience we have seen every way of picking a puppy that is out there. Seeing the success and failure of these different methods we have chosen to use the method that we have seen the highest success rate with.

We know these dogs better than anyone, we evaluate them and nurture them from birth through a minimum of 8 weeks. Using our raising protocol we have the puppies evaluated for health, structure, and temperament between 7.5 - 8 weeks old. We then look at all of our perspective homes, their goals, needs, and lifestyles and choose a home for each of our puppies.
We are always more than happy to let you meet any dogs that we have in house - regardless of their breed, sex, or situation. Our only exemption to this is once we are within about a week of delivery. At this point we limit interaction with our expecting mothers and the other dogs in our home in order to limit the contaminants and exposure to our whelping area and future puppies and stress to the mother at the recommendations of our medical support team.

We have public videos, webcam footage, and regular updates of our litters so that you can be involved and follow along. You will be able to watch a lot of our different training and exposure sessions remotely so you can see not only what the pups are up to but learn more about why we are doing these things. But we do not allow outside visitors until the puppies are 5 weeks old.

*We will not make exceptions to this rule. Before this stage only those that are assisting in raising the puppies are allowed access to their home.
After the 5 week mark if you are expecting to take home one of our puppies you are welcome to visit our puppies, meet our other dogs, or attend an outing with us.

If you want to visit we do ask that you let us know as far in advance as possible so that we can try and align your visit with a fun learning experience with the puppies. Obviously any visit with a pile of puppies is fun and enriching, but since we will be having puppy parties, scent games, and other wonderful socialization and exposure exercises it would be even better for you and our litter to line up a visit with one of these many activities so you can view it first hand, participate, or come at an appropriate window for your family's needs.

At this point in time we expect go home to be at 8 weeks. We are still actively considering keeping puppies to 9-10 week. Every litter is different and our goal is to give them a solid foundation, but to let them spend critical development time with their new families - it is a balance and something we think can vary for each litter. If in the early weeks we think the litter would benefit from an extended stay we will notify you when we call to ask if you would like to opt into the litter.

Regardless, we will start making travel arrangements for the set go home date over those first 8 weeks. We will not ever allow a puppy to go home before they are 8 weeks of age for any reason. Removing them before that time affects them in a critical learning stage.

Once you have taken home one of our puppies we are always available. We want to be there for advice and support over their entire lives and we want to build a friendship with all of the families who have taken home one of the dogs we loves so much.

We are here to share in your successes and failures, excitement and challenges, emergencies or celebrations.

We have a community for you all to share and participate in together along with others that have involvement with or support our program.
