Applying For A Sundog

What We Think You Should Know
Welcoming any dog into your family is a big decision, but we want to make sure that you are fully prepared when you apply for one of our Tamaskans. Please check out the info on this page for everything you should know about applying and how we run our kennel.

Are you ready for a Tamaskan?

It is always important that you are familiar with the breed and what kind of dog you are most likely to get, but with such a new breed it is extremely important that you consider not only the breed on a whole but the generation, lines, and any special considerations surrounding each litter and kennel philosophies.
This is a northern breed. They are born for snow and cold, have high activity and drive, are independent, intelligent, and stubborn.
White Elk Family, Clara at Denali
The only way to have a Tamaskan Dog is to have a puppy born form two parents registered with an approved club. It doesn't even matter if both parents are registered if the litter is not sanctioned and/or both dogs are not approved for breeding by their parent club.
Embark Puppies, Tamaskan Day Clara
As a breed on a whole Tamaskans are resilient and healthy. But the only way that will remain or to know that you are getting a well bred dog is to see health testing on the parents. And see that your breeder of choice is dedicated to continuing education on health and wellbeing.
First Family Group, First TD-Rom Clara
The vast majority of Tamaskans are companion animals, but there are many of us giving our dogs jobs - both new and traditional. Research what is typical and what is an anomaly and make sure you are comfortable with what that means as a possible caregiver when it comes to what you will be able to do with your dog.
PT Boat Service Dog, Yearling Sled Clara
Tamaskans are allowed to show with a number of different organizations. Part of bettering the breed is educating and having your dogs evaluated by the community on a whole.
Crate TIme, Puppy Pen PT Boat Litter
How is the litter being raised and placed? Is the breeder doing everything they can to get each dog matched to their family and raising them to give them the best possible chance at success? So much of a dog's life is shaped and set before 8 weeks of age.

We are not currently accepting applications but we do have a mailing list to update individuals when our applications are opened. You can also always check back here or follow our pages to make sure you don't miss it when we open them up.

How Our Applications Work

Every breeder has a different process for their applications and for homing their puppies.
Prepare
The following topics and info will help you to submit your best possible application. We can only get to know you if you complete it correctly & honestly.
Waiting List
Our application is for our waiting list. We have 10 spaces avaialable on this list and will only open applications when we have openings on this list.
Review Window
It typically takes us aprox. 1 month to review an application. It depends on the number of applicants, application window, and our schedule.
Follow Ups
If the initial application looks good we may contact your references and follow up as needed. This is so that we can fill in any gaps if needed.
Joining the List
If accepted you will be invited to join our waitlist group and when a litter is available you will be invited to complete our deposit contract process.

Our application must be completed without saving and it is a thorough application. In order to make this as easy as possible we encourage you to make sure you have all of the documents and info required for the application prepared in advanced and that you not only consider what you want and expect out of a Tamaskan, but how you and your family feel about adding a Tamaskan to your family, how you will train your puppy, and how you will address different areas and aspects of welcoming a new dog into your home.

Many think there is a trick to applying, but we want to make it very clear that there isn't one. We are looking for individuals that want a relationship with us and one of our dogs. It isn't about a single answer or part of your application it always comes down to what is best for our dogs and what they need in order to thrive. Please consider being as thorough and honest as possible as this is what will have the best results. We want to get to know you as more than a name an a few words on a page, so really let us know you by giving the application your full attention while you are completing it.

We encourage your to collect the following information  before you attempt to complete an application.

References:

  • Three personal references
  • Veterinarian contact info
  • Landlord information (if applicable)

This info is just filled into the application but you will want to collect contact info, names, and any additional info that you wish to include.

Photos:
We require that you submit the following photos:

  • your family
  • your pet(s)
  • your yard and home
  • your ID

They can be saved as a jpg or pdf. And if you need to include multiple photos for each category the best way to do this is to save all applicable photos for a category to a pdf and upload accordingly.

* Make sure you follow the naming directions included in the application. If you do not your photos may not be properly filed with your application and it will not be reviewed unless it is complete.

Instead of having you apply for specific puppies we prefer to have our puppies accounted for before they are ready to be assigned. The best method we have found for this is to have a waiting list so that interested families can basically reserve a puppy early on.

How do I get on the list?

To get onto our waiting list you must submit an application and we must accept it. We then will offer you the chance to place a deposit in order to hold you spot on our waiting list.

Is there an order?

Yes. While we don't accept on a true first come, first serve basis the waiting list is kept in order of deposit. Your deposit and waiting list contract submission determine your place on the list.

How Many?

Our waiting list consists of 10 spaces and our goal is to keep it full in anticipation of a litter. This gives us the best possible chance of getting puppies placed in optimal homes. The reason for the 10 space limit is that a litter is typically 10 or fewer puppies across the breed.

What if I apply and there isn't space?

If we see ideal applicants submit in one of our batches but the waiting list is full we will give them the opportunity to opt into a notification list. In the chance that we have individuals on a waiting list pass on their chance, or we have more puppies than anticipated this allows us to contact individuals who have passed our application process, but we just didn't have room for. We will email you before we make applications public if we have waiting list spots to give you a chance to update your application.

When we confirm pregnancy we will make a public announcement on our site and social media accounts. At that point in time everyone can follow the progress of the pregnancy and will be able to see appointment dates and an estimated delivery date.

Once we have a litter born, stable, and comfortable we will begin contacting those individuals on our waiting list.

At that point we start at the top of the list and reach out. Each individual can then choose to accept or pass on a puppy from the litter. To accept you must respond to contact. We continue down the waiting list until we hit the end of the list or until all puppies have homes. Missing contact or choosing to pass does not remove you from the waiting list, it just forfeits your ability to have a puppy from the litter at hand.

We may be different from other breeders you have worked with in that we assign puppies to families instead of letting individuals select their own puppy.

We have seen that since we raise these puppies, are experienced evaluators, and enlist the assistance of other professional evaluators we have a higher success rate with our placements then allowing  individuals to select puppies based off of a limited window of interaction.

You are more than welcome, and even encouraged to meet our dogs and visit puppies once it is safe for them to meet new people. Until that point you can watch them online, participate in live chats with us and the whole pack, and view evaluations, activities, and information about the puppies.

Between the seven and a half and eight week mark we go through all of our data, observations, etc. and do a temperament and structure evaluation on the entire litter. We then combine all of this information with the assistance of other professionals and determine which puppy is best suited for each home
